Martin Luther King Junior Day
On Monday, we will be celebrating Martin Luther King Junior Day. Because of a post on an article I wrote on another site, I just want to say that this day was not created so that Mr. King and only Mr. King has his own day. It is to commemorate all Mr. King did to try to make America a better country to live in. I cannot help but wish that I lived in a world where comments like, ” If you want to teach history you should know there is no such thing as President Day. It is Washington’s Birthday but the media wanted MLK to be the only person that we celebrate so they call it President’s Day. It is Washington’s Birthday and nothing else” and responses like, “In true historical reality, President’s Day was changed by Richard Nixon in 1971. It commemorates the birthdays of Washington and Lincoln. Twelve years later, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was signed into law by President Reagan” were unnecessary! As we begin a new era, where the day after Martin Luther King Jr. Day a man with an African-American background is sworn into office, let us look for ways to look at individuals as just that and pay no regard to the elements of his make-up that he was born with! Let’s start today to end prejudice in America!
